Description
Royal Air Force Jaguars at low level over the Arabian desert, signed by 25 Jaguar pilots who flew on Operation GRANBY, Operation DESERT STORM and Operation WARDEN.
Faced with an unprecedented threat from AAA, surface-to-air missile systems and fighter aircraft, the Jaguar pilots who deployed to Thumrait, Oman, as the spearhead of Operation GRANBY/DESERT SHIELD in August 1990 trained as they expected to fight – at ultra-low level. Flying at 480 knots at 20-30 feet with a full warload soon became an everyday experience as the pilots sought to hone their skills at hiding below radar cover and out of sight of local air defences.
Michael Rondot’s painting captures the speed and excitement of low-level operations as a pair of Jaguars loaded with 1000 lb Bombs and BL755 Cluster Bombs break formation and head down to the desert floor on a typical sortie. Each print in the edition is individually signed by 25 pilots from the RAF Coltishall Jaguar squadrons including all 3 squadron commanders. It is a great tribute to the engineers, pilots and the Jaguar aircraft itself, which proved so reliable and effective during these Operations.
